HOME! COMPUTER! FREE REFILLS! WOOAGE!
Jul. 23rd, 2004 02:08 pmWell I'm back in the states. A little Jet Lagged, tired but ok. Made it back to Louisville at 6pm last night.
I didn't realize I'd missed the cats as much as I did until I woke up with one on my bed and it was like "Ooo Salem!"
I tried to start my 5 Elements Challenge while I was on the plane, 3 false starts... I can't get any sort of plot going...if worse comes to worse I can just do a farce kinda stupid thing but we'll see what happens. I'd love to have actual plot but well...whatever.
I'm turning 20 tomorrow...this is freaking me out slightly...although the fact that I only have one more year before I'm legal is a definite plus.
I had a blast these 3 weeks. We spent most of the 3 weeks in Berlin but we visited Erfurt, Weinmar, Dresdin, Prague, Buchenwald Concentration Camp, the Baltic Sea, and a bunch of tiny little towns in between.
Charles DeGaul airport in Paris is the crappiest airport I have ever had the pleasure of traveling in. The way to Berlin my sister and I got into a big time screaming fight trying to figure out which terminal to go to. Our plane to/from the US didn't even get a gate both times, it just kinda landed out in a parking lot area and we had to take a bus to and from the terminal.
That sucked, but we made it...the airport people even though they spoke English were real rude and just ick...I don't like the French to much, and it's not because of their position on Iraq. I've been in Paris twice, once by bus and this last time in the airport, and they were just rude both times.
When we asked for help people just pointed and said something in French when it was damn obvious Mary and I don't speak French. The signs were only in French and the English was very tiny. Now...if you're an international Airport as big as DeGaul does it not make sense that you should have more languages than just French and English? I feel bad for people that didn't speak either language. Erg whatever. Other than that international travel was fun and Air France has really good airplane food. :)
I liked Berlin but I think my favorite side trip was to Prague. It is just a gorgeous city and wonderfully preserved. Somehow it made it through two World Wars and Communism without ruining the 17th century architecture. Plus my father's heritage is Czech, and we saw the island where my Great-Grandfather worked as a tailor.
I'll muse more about it later.... I'm gonna go take a nap... the long flight is catching up to me.
